2022 Golden Globe nominees announced: Belfast and the Power of the Dog dog leash with 7 nominations


Nominees for the 79th Golden Globe Awards have been announced, with Belfast by Kenneth Branagh and The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion leading the pack.

Both Belfast and The power of the dog totaled 7 nominations with the two films competing for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

This year’s nominees were announced by rapper Snoop Dogg and HFPA President Helen Hoehne at a 2022 Golden Globes official live stream Monday. Belfast has a long list of nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, as well as Best Actor (Jamie Dornan and Ciarán Hinds), Best Actress (Caitriona Balfe) and Best Song original.

The Power of the Dog also landed nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, as well as Best Actor (Benedict Cumberbatch), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Best Actress in a supporting role (Kirsten Dunst) and Best Original Score. .

Marvel and Disney + also won two Leading Actor Award nominations for Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany for WandaVision.

Other hot contenders in movie categories include Do not seek, which won 4 nominations despite mixed reviews, and West Side Story which was also nominated for 4 awards with King Richard.

This year’s best animated film is dominated by Disney, with the studio scoring 3 nominations in one category, for Encanto, Luca and Raya and the last dragon.

Leonardo DiCaprio received a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role in Don’t Look Up, which is sure to divide. But Kristen Stewart is already taking steps towards this Oscar with her nomination for Best Actress for Spencer.

The best films of 2021

This year Golden Globes Awards could be the first that will not be broadcast live, after NBC withdrew from awards following the backlash of the HFPA’s lack of action when it comes to diversifying its members. However, the HFPA is still planning to host the ceremony, with the winners potentially being announced by press conference.

During this time, Succession swept the table when it comes to television categories, with nominations for Best Drama Series as well as its stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook. Both Ted lasso and The Morning Show followed with 4 nominations each. Netflix was also the leading studio this year with 17 nominations, 12 more than any of its competition.
