Autism series returns to Netflix

A television series following the coming-of-adulthood experience of a young man on the spectrum will get a final season.

Netflix has announced that it will launch a fourth season of “Atypical” next month. The season will be his last.

The series centers on Sam Gardner, who is autistic and seeks love and independence as he enters adulthood. The new season sees Sam moving out of his parents’ house and grappling with college and what to expect as he looks to the future.

Keir Gilchrist, who plays Sam, is not autistic, but the series has featured several actors from the spectrum.

“What I’m most proud of about our show is the way we’ve worked to bring the stories of people across the spectrum to light while employing them,” said Robia Rashid, creator and executive producer of the show. . “Each season, we have hired people with autism in front of and behind the camera. We audition actors with disabilities for any role, even if the character is not scripted as having a disability. We work to have a diverse and inclusive whole from all points of view. “

Ten new half-hour episodes of Atypical will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 9.
