September 8 marks the 55th anniversary of Star Trek, so it is the official title of Star Trek Day. Today, Star Trek Wines is celebrating the holidays with the recent launch of its 2021 additions to their portfolio, which already includes United Federation of Planets sauvignon blanc and zinfandel.
Star Trek Wines was created in 2019 by Wines That Rock. The lifestyle wine business started over 15 years ago with a mission to create premium wines that connect brands and fans, including past collaborations with the Rolling Stones, Cirque du Soleil and Downton Abbey.
As an ode to the sci-fi series, Star Trek wines are deservedly from another world, and the bottles are highly collectable for Trekkie fans (and wine lovers). The Andorian Blue Chardonnay is the third in the United Federation of Planet wine series, featuring the first 2,161 bottles with handwritten numbers. The silkscreen design allows the Andorian blue shade of the wine to shine, symbolizing the importance of blue spirits from the original Star Trek universe. As for the wine itself, the chardonnay comes from the highlands of Santa Lucia, aged 12 months before bottling, and showcasing stone fruit and a lingering finish.
For red wine drinkers, Cardassian Kanar Red Wine Blend is the product of a multi-year research for an original bottle of Cardassian Kanar. The snake-shaped container was originally used in Europe between the 1950s and 1970s, with the last such bottle being used for Chianti in the early 1970s in Spain, Italy and Portugal.
After only discovering a few original bottles, the team returned the containers to recreate an identical replica of this high-end blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Syrah and Petit Verdot. The blend offers notes of juicy berries and silky tannins. In addition to the eye-catching design, the seal on the glass bottle reflects a shiny Cardassian logo, further enhancing the ship’s appeal outside of this galaxy.
In addition to calling out their latest wines on this special Star Trek Day, the brand is also highlighting their full, limited-edition collection titled “The Full Armada,” which includes all six offerings to date. To treat yourself or a Trekkie fan, visit startrekwines.com.
