Betsy was born in Crawford County on November 18, 1960, the daughter of the late Gregory E. Kidwell and Eleanor (Hamilton) Kidwell. Subsequently, Eleanor Kidwell married Clarence Kiter, Jr. in 1961.
After graduating in 1978 from Cochranton High School, Betsy received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Gannon University in 1982. After graduation, she found employment in Harrisburg before moving to Meadville to work at Chaps. There she worked as a drop-in center coordinator from 1997 to 2002 and touched many lives. During this period, she also provided technical assistance to the Western Region Community Support Program. In 2002, she returned to Harrisburg where she was instrumental in developing the Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) program for Pennsylvania. She was one of the first to teach CPS training in the state. Betsy enjoyed reading all types of books, including detective stories, historical novels, and the Bible. Her favorite movies were comedies, action movies and historical stories and she loved watching sports, especially NASCAR and the Steelers. She enjoyed listening to country music, especially Tim McGraw and Reba McEntire. She also liked to do crafts. As Betsy’s health declined, her personality and will remained strong and she never complained. Betsy had the ability to put everyone at ease. She will be mostly remembered as a very special person with a generous spirit and a kind heart.
