At the beginning of last year, Liz Flahive and Carly Menschthe creative team behind the netflix Pin up “GLOW», has signed a global agreement with Apple for new television projects. Their first show for AppleTV+? A dark and comedic feminist fable anthology series featuring some of the most talented women in show business.

“Roarfrom a collection of short stories by Cecelia Ahern, spans eight half-hour episodes about how women deal with others’ perceptions of femininity, as well as their own. Expect surprises with this show, as AppleTV+ presents it as a whimsical and resourceful take on femininity.

Apple TV+ today revealed the premiere date and a first look at the highly anticipated all-girl anthology series, “Roar,” which will debut globally with all eight episodes on Friday, April 15, 2022. Based on a short story book by Cecelia Ahern, the series is the first to be released under the global agreement of “Roar” creators and co-showrunners Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive (“GLOW”) with Apple TV+, and features a cast stars including Academy, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”), who also serves as an executive producer; Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo; six-time Emmy nominee Issa Rae; Merritt Wever, Emmy Award winner; SAG Award nominee Alison Brie; three-time Emmy nominee Betty Gilpin; and Meera Syal, Fivel Stewart and Kara Hayward. “Roar” offers an insightful, poignant, and sometimes hilarious portrait of what it means to be a woman today. Featuring a unique blend of magical realism, familiar home and work scenarios, and futuristic worlds, these eight stories reflect the dilemmas of ordinary women in accessible yet surprising ways. The way they emerge from their respective journeys speaks to the resilience that exists within themselves and with all women.
