Robert Carlyle says Trainspotting spinoff series is in early development

According to Robert Carlyle, discussions are underway about a Trainspotting spinoff series based on Irvine Welsh’s 2016 novel The artist of the blade, which continues the story of Francis Begbie following the events of Trainspotting and its sequel Porn.

“Irvine and I have had a lot of talk lately with some great producers in London about [continuing the Trainspotting story]”Carlyle told NME.” As you know there was another book called The artist of the blade which only concerns Begbie and her crazy story. It’s still in its early stages, but it looks pretty good that it will eventually happen. It’s such a huge story – it’s all round trip from Los Angeles to Edinburgh – and it’s hard to do it all in an hour and a half! Especially if you want to keep the basis of this book pure.

As Carlyle says, The artist of the blade follows a now reformed Begbie living in California as Jim Francis, who is forced to return to Scotland after his son’s murder.

The potential series would see Carlyle reprise her role as Trainspotting and follow-up 2017 T2 Trainspotting, with the actor stating that the adaptation is currently being considered a six-episode limited series.
