Sky and Peacock Order Original Drama Series Based on Carnival Films’ The Day of the Jackal from Universal International Studios

Sky and Peacock today announce a new original TV series inspired by Frederick Forsyth’s seminal thriller The day of the jackal and Universal Pictures’ award-winning 1973 film adaptation.

The new series is a bold, contemporary reimagining of the beloved and respected novel and film. While staying true to the DNA of the original IP, this contemporary drama will delve deeper into the chameleon as “anti-hero” at the heart of the story, in a high-octane “cat and mouse” thriller , cinematic and globetrotting, amidst the turbulent geopolitical landscape of our times.

The series will be produced by Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Sky Studios. Irish screenwriter Ronan Bennett is attached to write and broadcast. The winner Brian Kirk will be the main director.

Production on the series will begin next summer. Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant are the executive producers of Carnival Films. Frederick Forsyth will serve as consulting producer and Christopher Hall is producer.

The series will be available on Peacock in the US and on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. NBCUniversal Global Distribution will handle international sales of the series.
