David Simon may have inadvertently announced the premiere date of his long-awaited limited series, We own this town, at HBO. January 15, HBO Thread and The Plot Against America The creator replied to a fan’s tweet asking him to create “a movie to be released or an @HBOMax series!” linked to the Baltimore Police Department’s corrupt drug task force investigation. Simon, who is known for his current social affairs television series usually centered on the city of Baltimore, simply replied with a date and time: “April 25, 9 p.m., HBO.”

A video reel from HBO released earlier this year confirmed that the series was set to premiere in 2022. Now, via the creator himself, viewers know the show will arrive in late April.
Based on the Inquiry Book We Own This Town: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption written by Baltimore Sun journalist, Justin Fenton, the six-episode limited series will detail the rabid corruption that has eroded the city’s gun trail task force. For years, specially trained plainclothes agents have committed atrocities against citizens and criminals to keep their pockets and prison cells full to capacity. The unit’s dramatic downfall appears to have begun with the investigation into the police murder of Freddie Gray in 2015.
The series is set to star Jon Bernthal (The premise, The Punisher), Josh Charles (The Good Wife, Trio), and Thread former student, Jamie Hector, as corrupt police officers. According to Variety, they will be joined by a cast including former Thread actors Chris Clanton (LUV), Jermaine Crawford (A mother Pray), Nathan E. Corbett (Half Nelson), and Tray Chaney (Streets) as well as Thaddeus Street (The Devil).
Simon will serve as executive producer with George Pelecanos (King Suckerpunch, the Night Gardener) and Ed Burns (The crop top, the thread). They are joined by executive producers Kary Antholis (Shadow of Hatred, Elvis Presley: The Seeker), Nina K. Noble (The Deuce, Shot in the Heart), and Reinaldo Marcus Green (Of Monsters and Men, King Richard), who will also direct. Bill Zorzi(The Wire, show me a hero) will be co-executive producer with Dwight Watkins (The Cook Up: A Crack Rock Memoir) writing.
