Various Artists Limited hires Jack Bayles as head of comedy – Deadline

I can destroy you and Sally4Ever Producer Various Artists Limited (VAL) has hired Channel 4 editor Jack Bayles as its first head of comedy.

Bayles will take on the newly created role from August and will be based in London and Brighton. He will be responsible for overseeing VAL’s comedy slate and developing new projects. VAL said the executive, who has 20 years of comedy experience, will provide “creative leadership and artistic vision for the role.”

The company was founded in 2017 by Sam Bain, its writing partner and Succession creator Jesse Armstrong and a pair of former Channel 4 commissioners, Phil Clarke and Roberto Troni. Bayles will report to Clarke.

Prior to VAL, Bayles produced the Channel 4 and Amazon comedy Disaster with Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, and in 2017 was named editor of the broadcaster, which is currently looking for its own head of comedy, Fiona McDermott outgoing for AppleTV+.

Bayles was responsible for the BAFTA-winning three seasons Stath rents apartmentstwo seasons of Derry Girlstwo seasons of Aisling Bea This way untilwith Michell & Webb’s Return, The Curse, Hullraisers and the highly anticipated comedy horror puppet show Don’t hug me I’m scaredwhich finally bows out on Channel 4 this year after debuting as a web series 11 years ago.

Besides the famous series Michaela Coel from BBC3 I can destroy youVAL is also behind the E4 comedy dead pixels and Sky and HBO comedy Sally4Eva.
